Long before galaxies burst from atramentous void
Worlds springing from an abyss of cosmic nothingness
Before stars blazed in delicate fury
And waves soaked the dusty firmament
Before animals danced in praise to silent symphonies
Before trees swayed to natures chartless harmonies
Before order arranged, before fruit had a taste
Before all that we know had a name.
I am.
Before mankind fractured the perfectly pristine of your creation
the serpent usurping the unblemished will
Before the cosmos was plunged to darkest night
Before found was lost and good was ill
Before humanity was banished from Presence by traitorous hate
Before rebels chose a damnable fate
Before angels guarded, with weapons sharpened
Before light was darkened
I am.
Long before Cain raised a blood-drunk murderous arm
and waters drowned rebels bent on barbarous villainy
Before prophets were cut in two
for declaring “this is truth”
and kings embraced ignoble dignity
Before a racist preacher ran away,
Before broken hero after broken hero fell to shame
Before righteous pain or eternal flame
Before we realized there was no hope to be found in our own name.
I am.
I am the Creator who fashioned all that is
I am truth from before time began to worlds without end.
I am Adonai, the One of whom angels sing
I am El Shaddai, the unrivaled Almighty King
I am Jehovah God, the One without stain
I am the Lamb of God, for traitors slain
I am Alpha, Omega, beginning and end
I am Justice, Redeemer, the answer to sin
I am King of all Kings,
I am fury unleashed
I am Light to the World,
I am Prince of all peace.
I am Jesus, the way, the truth, the life
I am friend to the sinner
I am rest from the strife.
I am before all, in all, through all
I am all and in all
And I choose for citizens of the fall
To turn from blight and humbly call:
To I Am.
